SA-HK ("The Veteran Car Club of Finland")
Purpose of the Club
The aim of the Club is to act as a central organisation for old vehicle enthusiasts in Finland offering them support in various forms of the hobby and taking care of the related international contacts. Museum vehicle inspection is an important part of the activities in maintaining historic vehicles for future generations.
General
Suomen Automobiili-Historiallinen Klubi ry (SA-HK ry) (“The Veteran Car Club of Finland”) was founded in 1959 and it is an umbrella organization for persons interested in old cars and automotive history. At the moment the club consists of 24 local clubs which together have over 5 000 members. The aim of the SA-HK is to document the Finnish automotive history in all its forms. For that purpose SA-HK has published the magazine “Automobiili” since 1963. The magazine includes articles of the development of motor cars and traffic in our country and old car hobby in general.
SA-HK has initiated the official museum vehicle inspection procedure which is essential in saving historic vehicle traditions of the country. This activity was started in 1978 with the idea of maintaining samples of old vehicles in their original form for future. So far more than 14 000 museum vehicles have passed the checking of the SA-HK inspectors. There are strict conditions for passing the inspection after which the vehicles can be entered in the official museum vehicle register. The vehicle must be in the original condition – through restoration or careful use – and a minimum of 25 years must have passed since the end of its manufacturing year (to be increased to 30 years on 1st January 2008).
SA-HK is an organization combining people with the same hobby. The club arranges activities where the members can meet each other and take part on old car rallies. The biggest rally is arranged each June by one of the local clubs which tradition started in 1960. The club has one half-time official and an office in Sörnäinen, Helsinki. The board of directors (consisting of a chairman and six members) is responsible for the management of the club. Membership of the SA-HK is effected through the local clubs.
